As founders of AT&T Knowledge Ventures, Ms. Divine and Mr. Roche delivered industry leading realized earnings in less than four years, with additional substantial unrealized gains associated with executed transactions. Finally, the Principals share common personal and professional beliefs and vision, have a passion for IP and its important role in the economy, and each has a superior track record of his/her own.
Abha Divine, Managing Director. Ms. Divine’s career demonstrates proven results in the successful planning and launch of a variety of new businesses and technology deployments. Prior to Techquity, Ms. Divine successfully launched and led AT&T Knowledge Ventures to manage and market the worldwide IP portfolio for the AT&T family of companies. As President and CEO of Knowledge Ventures, she led the organization to deliver EBITDA positive results in less than 2 years and produce measurable EPS impact for AT&T each year thereafter, establishing Knowledge Ventures as the leading producer of IP assets and revenue in the industry. In 2005, she and the organization were recognized by the National Taskforce for Knowledge and IP Management as Innovator of the Year for the comprehensive framework for IP development, analysis, valuation, and commercialization established at Knowledge Ventures. Previously, as SBC’s Vice President of Corporate Strategy, she was responsible for the creation and launch of SBC’s data networking, managed services, and hosting businesses, as well as the restructuring of its consumer broadband strategy resulting in SBC’s broadband leadership position. In this role, she led a team in defining and executing strategy, including the acquisitions, strategic alliances, and buyouts required for successful execution and positioning of SBC in key growth areas. Additionally, Ms. Divine provided strategic direction to SBC’s VC fund, resulting in positive EPS impact for the corporation in 2000 and 2001. Ms. Divine earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from MIT where she completed her research at the Media Laboratory. Ms. Divine received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Math from Southern Methodist University.
Mark Roche, Managing Director . Mr. Roche has over sixteen years of financial and transactional experience in multiple industry sectors and end markets. Prior to Techquity, he spent the past four years leading the Business Development efforts at AT&T Knowledge Ventures. In this role, he and his team negotiated dozens of successful patent and other IP transactions spanning standards related licensing to assertions and sales, driving significant in-year and long-term revenue growth. Mr. Roche led his team to achieve these results through a systematic and thorough business and financial analysis approach aimed at producing strategically consistent, detailed execution plans for asset commercialization. Mr. Roche’s specialized expertise in deal structuring led to successful execution of the commercialization plans. Likewise at Emerson, Mr. Roche led global M&A efforts that transformed its process group from a components manufacturer to an automation solutions provider, resulting in 5X revenue growth in 3 years. Mr. Roche’s demonstrated financial expertise and leadership provided effective corporate reporting models and forecasting for investor guidance and business planning at Prodigy Communications, resulting in the firm’s profitability for the first time in its 15 year history. Mr. Roche earned a Master of Business Administration from The University of Chicago and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from Duke University.
